then and now

sunset b

yesterday forever existed under covers
with reenacted love songs
played out dancing on your soft carpet.

we lived in the night with your
head on my chest and my nose filled
with the scent of raspberry hair.

yet, it was in the midst
of that coffee-d morning,
the wild hangover
with dreams caught in our teeth
that i detached from Love;
emotions solitary in the doorway—
imprisoned by a lingering magic
of friction and pleasure.

the Infinite, outside with the ocean,
basking in your distance—

drowning within your delicate breath,
i emerge from the confines of night;
bursting into day—my feet
thundering to your songs
of forever and the words that played
when yesterday was alive.
